EVENT STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT
SPEED DATING
As an officer for the Communications Club at Western Washington University, I executed several successful speed dating events that became a consistent event after I graduated. This entailed planning, coordinating, budgeting, and executing all events. We hosted five fundraisers that increased our club budget by $500 in less than 6 months.
-
What we had to pick as officers for the event:
•location
•time
•day
•amenities
•snacks
•music
Selection of a date based on demographic of Western students. Considerations included but not limited to were:
•weekday
•time of the quarter, around test time
•other events
Inclusivity was maintained by having options for every sexuality and identity such as:
•women loving women
•men loving men
•queer loving queer
•heterosexuals
All Western students were welcome and nametages with pronouns, name and sexuality was required upon entry.
-
Raise funds for the event with fundraisers such as:
•flower sale
•bake sale
•raffle
•telegrams
All raised funds were allocated towards:
•setup
•food
•drinks
•venue
•decorations
•entertainment

Other club members volunteered to help run the event. Had to adapt to the event based on turnout of over 100 attendees and keeping people entertained. Adapted to overflow and kept everyone upbeat and enjoying themselves. This was my favorite type of event to host. Feedback from attendees:
“This was so much fun and I didn’t expect for there to be such a big turnout. You guys will have to do this again my friends want to come!”
“You guys worked with what you were dealt and I think you did a really good job”
Feedback was requested from attendees to determine areas of improvement and what aspects were good.
donor appreciation breakfast
Planned and helped assist in hosting this annual event for institutional donors.
-
Had to start planning months prior by performing the following:
•designing a timeline for actions/responsibilites for every person and department to complete
•review of timeline by department and signed off
•sending reminders of past due tasks
•review speeches for the event to ensure proper grammar
review flyers for correct information and proper grammar
-
I was the photographer of the event that saved the institution the costs of hiring on someone else. Had to capture the following:
•scholarship recipients
•leadership speeches
•campaign flyers
•venue/setup
•candid images of people conversing
•food provided from donors
After the event, I edited the photos and uploaded them to a shared file for the department to access and posted them to designated socials.

This event allowed the educational institution to give thanks to all donors that supported them. An annual event that produces many benefits:
•satisfies current donors
•encourages new donors
•networking
•build connections
